Program Name
Impact of Social Media use on Mental Well Being of Secondary School Students in Arunachal Pradesh
Program Type
Research Program
Program Description
The proposed study seeks to examine the mental well-being of secondary school students in Arunachal Pradesh in relation to their social media use. Mental well-being will be assessed through the dimensions of Engagement, Perseverance, Optimism, Connectedness, and Happiness (EPOCH), while considering variations across gender, locale (rural and urban), and type of school (government and private). The study will explore students’ patterns of social media use, including time spent online, preferred platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, and Facebook, as well as the purposes and nature of their engagement. It will further investigate the relationship between social media use and mental well-being, identifying both positive and negative influences. Recognizing that adolescents’ digital experiences are shaped by their social environment, the study will also examine the roles of parents, teachers, and peers in influencing social media practices and mental well-being. The findings are expected to provide evidence for developing context-specific educational and psychosocial interventions in Arunachal Pradesh.
